Race Information

    Each relay team features 2 or 3 participants with each participant completing one or two of the Triathlon discipline – Swim, Cycle or Run.

 

Registration

    No. An entry fee is non–refundable once entry has been accepted.

  4. Can I transfer my entry to my friend if I’m injured or not available to participate?
    No. An entry is non–transferable once entry has been accepted.

  5. Can I enter both the Individual race and Relay Race?
    Yes, you can enter either or both of the individual race or Relay race on different date.

  6. How will I know if my entry has been accepted?
    An e-mail will be sent to you once your entry has been accepted.

  7. What information will I receive if my entry is accepted?
    All update event information and start list will be posted on the web site: www.hongkongitu.com

 

Swim Course

  1. Is a wet suit allowed for the swim?
    The water should be warm enough, and no wet suit is allowed.

  2. What does the swim course look like?
    The swim courses are in rectangle, starting at the sea outside of Lantau Island and exit the water via the landing ramp which is locate at Waterfront Promenade. You may refer to the course map for detail.

  3. What is the starting mechanism?
    All categories are in deep water start.

  4. Are there any special rules about the swim suit?
    Swim suits covering any part of your arms or extending below the knee is not be allowed.

  5. How and where will the Relay Team Handover will take place?
    The relay handover zone will be situated at the Transition Area. The Hand Over will be done by the transfer of the timing chip from the swimmer to the cyclist.

 

Transition Area

  1. Where do I put my cycling and running kits?
     There is a designated area known as the ‘Transition Area’ where each competitor will have an area to rack one's bike and put other gear such as helmet, cycling shoes, clothing, etc. Upon completing the swim, you will run to this area to collect your bicycle.

  2. Are there any special rules relating to the Transition Area?
    Yes. Athletes have to put on and fix the helmet before taking the bike and have to rack the bike after the bike leg before removing helmet after finishing the bike leg. No photos and video taken are allowed.

  3. Is there any area in the Transition Area that allow spectator to take photos?
    Transition area is a restricted area, no spectators, parents, coach, photographer and media are allowed to access into transition area

 

Bike Course

  1. What does the bike course look like?
    The bike course is mainly flat, with some hilly areas.

  2. Will there be a bike inspection before the 2009 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon PREMIUM Asian Cup?
    All participants are encouraged to have your bike inspected by professional bike shop. Its participants’ responsibility to ensure your bike is road worthy. Please note that only participants in the Elite categories will have their bicycles inspected prior to the race briefing on Friday, 16 October 2009.

  3. Is it compulsory to wear a helmet during the bike section?
    Yes. For your own safety, cycling helmet is compulsory during the whole cycle leg of the race. The helmet must be securely fastened at all times when the competitor is in possession of the bicycle, i.e., from the time before they remove their bicycle from the rack to start their bike leg, to until they have racked their bicycle on the rack after finishing the bike leg.

  4. If I don’t have a bike, is there any bike hire service available?
    You can contact the following bike shop, or any bike shop you know.

  5. What is drafting?
    Drafting means deliberately taking advantage of the "Draft" created by a moving object (such as a cyclist or other vehicle) to race faster or with less effort.

  6. Is drafting allowed in the 2009 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Premium Asian Cup
    Drafting will only be allowed between competitors of the same gender in the Elite wave. All Age Groupers are not allowed to draft.

  7. How do I avoid Drafting?
    You can avoid drafting by making sure that, other than passing another cyclist, your front wheel should remain at least 5 meters behind the back wheel of the cyclist in front of you. 5 meters is approximately 2 bicycle lengths.

  8. What if I wish to overtake the cyclist in front of me?
    If you wish to overtake the cyclist in front of you, you shall have 15 seconds to go from 5 meters behind them, to your front wheel being in front of their front wheel.

  9. What if another cyclist passes me?
    If another cyclist passes you, it is your responsibility to ensure that your front wheel remains at least 5 meters behind his rear wheel.

  10. How do the draft marshals enforce the rules?
    Please refer to drafting rules

  11. Is there any drink station on the bike course?
    No. There will be no drink stations on the bike leg. We recommend that you to stock up enough water in your drinking bottle for the cycle leg.

  12. What sort of bike should I use?
    There is no stringent requirement on the type of bike used.

  13. Are there any special rules and information relating to the bike course?
    - The bike course will be closed to all vehicles except emergency vehicles and local residential traffic.
    - Keep cycling on the left except when overtaking, so that other road users and cyclists can overtake.
    - Remain courteous to all other users at all times.
    - Do not cross the white centre line of the road, offenders may be disqualified for dangerous riding.

 

Run course

  1. What does the run course look like?
    It is a flat run course.

  2. How often will I reach a drink station?
    Water stations are about 1.5km apart from each other.

  3. How many drink/sports drink stations are there at the run course?
    There will be three drink stations throughout the run course where sports drink will also be provided.
  4. May I race with a bare torso?
    NO

  2. How do I get the race venue?
    We suggest you to take the official transport to the race site. As the race starts early, most public transport won't be in services.

  3. Is Transport to and from the race venue be provided and how much does it cost?
    Yes. The transportation cost is HK$60 per person and HK$80 per bike.

  4. How can I obtain the official race result?

  5. When will the official race result be available?
    The official result will be available on the website www.hongkongitu.com the same afternoon of the race day.

  6. Will there be on-site race briefing?
    No. There will be a pre-race briefing and race pack collection being held on 6 October (1830 to 2100), 9 October (1800 to 2100) and 10 October (1500 to 1800) at 2/F Jockey Club Theatre, Olympic House, 1 Stadium Path, So Kon Po, Causeway Bay. It is compulsory to attend the race briefing. Race briefing for overseas athletes, which will be held on 17 October (1530 to 1730).
